Review of “The Wild Robot” Movie

By: Nicole Sadler

Reaching an outstanding 98% on the movie review site, Rotten Tomatoes, The Wild Robot is easily one of the best cinematic experiences of this year. The movie has grossed over 200 million dollars after only a month in theaters, two and a half times more than the production budget of 78 million dollars. The film is based off of a book called The Wild Robot, directed by Chris Sanders, and the main characters voiced by Lupita Nyong'o, Kit Connor, Pedro Pascal. With these amazing actors, director, and source material, this movie was bound to be incredible. After seeing it myself, I wholeheartedly agree.

The Wild Robot is a movie that takes place in the future. Robots are being sold around the world as helpers. One day, a shipment of these robots crashes on a small, uninhabited, woodland island. One robot, Ras, is the only robot intact after the crash. True to the helper robot she is, she searches for a task to complete. She even goes as far to learn how to talk to the animals in order to ask if they need assistance. One thing leads to another and she finds herself co-parenting a baby gosling, Brightbill, with the help of a fox, Fink. The movie explores found family and the need for belonging.

The first thing people notice when watching the movie are the visuals. The colors are vibrant and the background is stunningly detailed. It is as if the movie comes right out of a painting. This movie is brilliant about getting people invested in the characters. The characters' emotions and decisions always felt authentic and never forced. Also, the movie doesn’t just have a single theme. The movie has something to speak to everyone, from the trials of motherhood, to nature versus technology, to even kindness being a survival skill.

All in all, The Wild Robot is a heartwarming and visually stunning film that captures the essence of its source material while adding a unique cinematic flair. It’s a testament to the power of storytelling, proving that even a robot can find its place in the world. With its compelling characters, breathtaking animation, and poignant themes, this movie is sure to leave a lasting impression on audiences of all ages. Whether you're a fan of the book or simply looking for a great family film, The Wild Robot is a must-watch.
